A chat with Rachel Reuben

After my radio round table talk with Dellani and Christina/Rachel I had another opportunity to find out what interests Rachel.

You write mostly YA and children’s books, would you consider writing for adults?

I do plan on writing for adults my latest novel Eternal Bond is a fantasy adult book.  I love writing children’s and YA books but this particular series of vampire novels was calling to me.  I miss my old vamps and needed to reintroduce them to a new generation that’s never known anything outside of Edward and Bella.

What genre is your fave genre to read?

I like to read nonfiction, because I love learning and because reality is often stranger than fiction.

What do you do to cure writers block?

I turn on the iPod and listen to jazz or Latin music because it’s much more dramatic than anything on the radio today.  Plus the lyrics are near perfection, after listening to Sinatra and Gershwin how can you walk away unmoved?

I also have a fascination with photography, I can go to iStockphoto or Dreamstime and spend the day staring at photos and dreaming up characters or stories to go along with them.

Would you write something as ripped from the headlines?

I’m not sure, most of what I see in the headlines makes me want to retreat to my writer’s cave and never come out LOL!  Besides, if we get too real in our fiction, we can be sued.  I know NBC has a disclaimer at the beginning of their show Law & Order to prevent those sorts of things, but it hasn’t done them any good.  People still continue to sue them over defamation.  I know Michael Jackson was rumored to be considering it after their portrayal of his second child molestation case.  It was a great episode by the way!

Could you picture yourself writing or doing comedy?

Not at all, I’m not a funny person in the least.  I can’t be funny on command.

Rachel Rueben had no intention of becoming a writer, but after numerous attempts at being normal she gave up and became an author.  Her first novel “Hag” made it to #10 on the Amazon’s bestseller’s list in its first month.  Her next project includes a series of supernatural books called, “The Eternal Bond Series” due out in the fall of 2013.

Rachel is a blogger, podcaster, and content contributor to several writing blogs.

About karenwritesmurder

I am a writer, blogger and radio host. I love to read and my love of books has lead me down this path. People tell me I write like Janet Evanovich. I take that as a compliment as I love her Plum books. I feel like Stephanie and Laura could be best friends.
