Music to write by –my playlist for writing-a little attitude is needed!

Music has always inspired me as I write. I have a playlist on youtube that I started with some of my favorites. Songs that have inspired stories like SCENES FROM AN ITALIAN RESTAURANT was an inspiration for a current work in progress A BOTTLE OF RED.  I also include songs with attitude for my main character Laura in my series. I also included a song by Peter Frampton who is my character Miranda’s fave rocker in my NaNo 101 CROSS STREET. Most of what I listen to is classic 70s but this is a variety package I am sharing with you.

A MUSICAL QUESTIONAIRE

Were any of your books inspired by a song? If so, which?

One of my stories A BOTTLE OF RED was inspired by SCENES FROM AN ITALIAN RESTAURANT by Billy Joel. I thought the title fit theme as it was the same as the song about revisiting your past.

Do you find yourself including music within your books?

Sometimes I mention music or songs in my books but not always.

Do you use music for mood, pacing, etc in your novels?

I usually listen to classic 70’s rock when I write. Especially my Laura and Gerry series. I listen to songs with attitude like MY GIVE A DAMNS BUSTED (ok that’s not 70s but it has attitude that matches Lauras attitude.

Have you taken a song title for a book title?

Not a song title but a line from a song A BOTTLE OF RED

Are any of your characters musicians?

No not musicians but there are some comedians running amok.

Do your characters’ musical tastes reflect yours?

I guess I have imposed my tastes on my characters or given the time they were born like the late 70s they might like 90’s music or later of which I like some.

What kind of music do you listen to when you write?

Seventies and some of the one hit wonders of the 80’s. It depends on what my mood is at the time.
Is there any type of music you will absolutely not ever listen to?

Old twangy country

Opera

Classical music –would put me to sleep

Some authors make playlists for every book. Have you done that?

No but it’s a great idea. Maybe I might

About karenwritesmurder

I am a writer, blogger and radio host. I love to read and my love of books has lead me down this path. People tell me I write like Janet Evanovich. I take that as a compliment as I love her Plum books. I feel like Stephanie and Laura could be best friends.
