A quandary for writers

Picture this you’re lying in bed getting some really good REMs going and suddenly an idea pops into your head for a new plot. It seems to be hot and happening and wanting immediate attention. Here’s the thing you already have millions of ideas for new stories bouncing off the grey matter right along with the WIPs you have had trouble finishing for the last year and the new kid on the block is interrupting your train of thought.

Do you give the new tale 5 minutes of time in order to jot down a few ideas and keep it happy?

Do you tell it line forms to the left and take a number?

Ignore it completely and hope it takes the hint.

If the thought persists like a fetid sore you must treat it and let it heal.

The reason I am writing about this is because these ideas invade my peace and quiet frequently. It happened first with DEAD ON ARRIVAL back in 2005. The plot, you could say came to me in a dream. It sounds terribly cliche but that’s the way it happened. Same thing happened for my NaNo but months earlier.  I wrote down the premise and saved it for after I finished DEAD MEN DON’T SWING but come november it was chewing at the fluff in my head and screaming for attention. Having no other ideas for the NaNo I decided to shake off the dust bunnies and moth balls and use it. 101 CROSS STREET was born and will be published eventually. My latest nocturnal musings have taken route in my brain and deserve a few notes for future use.

About karenwritesmurder

I am a writer, blogger and radio host. I love to read and my love of books has lead me down this path. People tell me I write like Janet Evanovich. I take that as a compliment as I love her Plum books. I feel like Stephanie and Laura could be best friends.
