In another departure from my usual genres, Into The Doorways by P.S. Winn is a science fiction novel that I enjoyed reading recently. The plot is set in the world of Terrene, which seems to be a healthier and advanced form of Earth. Life on Terrene is good and its inhabitants are happy. There’s just one small problem. Asteroid Hartman is on course for a head-on collision with Terrene in six months time and the planet and its population will be obliterated. The Chamber of Guardians tasked the Postern Project with researching “Parallel Worlds” through portals created where magnetic lines converge. It is the Alpha Team’s job to visit these worlds to find those sustainable for human life. The 100,000 population of Terrene needs a new home. Interestingly, the Parallel World of Earth is one they chose to visit, but war and pollution had put the Earth on a trajectory for ruin. The ending was a huge surprise.
This was a well-written and well-paced book that flowed nicely and was easily understood. I liked all the characters and the plot was interesting enough to keep my attention that I read the book in one sitting. This was a good book. 4 of 5 stars.
